The Hapo, ErgoSanté's exoskeleton, being tested at the hospital in Alès (Gard). Radio France - Ludovic Labastrou

The Alès hospital is currently testing an exoskeleton from the company ErgoSanté in Anduze (Gard). Employees who are confronted with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which account for the majority of sick leave, are getting older. The Hapo could help them to stay in work.

The Hapo, theexoskeleton, designed and manufactured by the company ErgoSanté in Anduze, is currently being tested at the hospital in Alès-en-Cévennes. A work support system - a solution for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders - the ErgoSantéexoskeleton was intended for use in industry, but it seems that with a few adaptations it could prove to be very useful in the hospital environment.

The AeraMax Professional 3 air purifier retains 99.97% of particles with a smallest diameter of 0.3 microns.

AERAMAX air purifier at Ergosanté

The AeraMax Pro AM III air purifier is equipped with an ultra-quiet five-speed fan that is ideal for 24-hour use. It also removes viruses and fungi from the air. But it also has two operating modes, standard and silent. And it is equipped with indicators for easy maintenance.

The purifier has a built-in air quality sensor. This automatically adjusts the fan speed to clean the air you breathe.

This is why Ergosanté markets this air purifier. Its purpose will be to treat the polluted air formed inside a living space. Living spaces are often confronted with different forms of pollution due, among other things, to human activity. It will clean the living space to make it bacteria-free by removing 99.97% of particles with the smallest diameter of 0.3 microns. This includes pollen, ragweed and other allergens, viruses, microbes, dust mites, fungi, animal dander and cigarette smoke.

The purification system of the AM III air purifier works in 4 stages to remove 99.97% of the pollutants from the air.

ErgoSanté, designer and manufacturer of ergonomic equipment adapted to the needs of employees, will build a new manufacturing workshop in Anduze.

By Hubert Vialatte Published on Dec. 3, 2020 at 19:22

Specialising in the design and manufacture of ergonomic seats and new models of exoskeletons, the adapted company ErgoSanté obtained a grant of 800,000 euros as part of the "Territoires d'Industrie" programme. This grant is part of a global financing project of 2 million euros.

This project comprises several stages: acceleration of international development, structuring of the adapted business model, further innovation, training, acquisition of machinery, construction of a new manufacturing workshop.

"The grant from France Relance will speed things up," says Samuel Corgne, director and founder ofErgoSanté. The challenge is to "get our hands back on the manufacturing capacity, to rebalance production between England and Anduze".

50 jobs created between 2020 and 2023

The two UK industrial sites will continue to produce complex tapestries - seats for an amputee or a heavyweight person, etc. - which will be used in the future.

In Anduze, the plant will be expanded by the end of 2021 by 1,000 m2, "which is 1.5 times more than the current surface area. We are awaiting the validation of the project by the town council of Anduze, whose executive has just changed," says Samuel Corgne. The architect is Aitec (architecture, engineering, technical and construction engineering), based in Alès.

This extension is a necessity, whereas e-commerce, via the betterwork.fr website, has been boosted by the development of workstation fittings linked to the boom in teleworking: sale of seats, cushions, mice, briefcases...". But for the moment, we are unable to increase our manufacturing capacity as sales increase," warns Samuel Corgne.

With this new industrial tool, ErgoSanté plans to create 26 direct, non-relocatable local jobs in three years, to be added to the 25 jobs already created this year. The adapted company will thus have to "increase its skills on very complex products". While maintaining its identity as a committed player in the social and solidarity economy. " ErgoSanté is doing its part to promote integration, and that's what makes me thrilled. I'm not interested in working with people who are doing well," concludes Samuel Corgne.

Created in 2013, ErgoSanté employs 90 people in 16 branches. Turnover (€7 million last year) is expected to grow by 10% this year.

An artificial exoskeleton is a support structure worn on the body that relieves the musculoskeletal system during specific activities. This new posture sling is dedicated to relieving back strain and maintaining good posture, whether in full flexion or standing in a simple trunk flexion.

Thus, whatever the posture, HAPO reduces lumbar effort and preserves the intervertebral discs. Innovative, it partially transfers the efforts of the upper trunk in pectoral support to the thighs with the help of springs. As for the belt, it allows the lumbar vertebrae to be held without restraint. Its activation/deactivation mechanism offers great freedom of movement, such as sitting down, going up or down stairs. Efficient with an assistance power of 14 Kg it is currently the best cost / efficiency ratio in its category.

Prevent and relieve back pain simply by

Low back pain affects 4 out of 5 people and is also caused by difficult positions within the company: manual, repetitive handling, carrying heavy loads, difficult postures under stress, hard physical work.

The HAPO is the result of the expertise of Ergosanté Technologie's design office, which is already at the origin of the multifunctional exoskeleton, the ShivaExo developed in collaboration with the SNCF.

Its innovative design, based on fiberglass, makes HAPO easy to use. You can equip it like a backpack in no time at all. Light and discreet, it weighs barely more than one kg. It is also innovative on the economic aspect since it is marketed at the price of 990€ HT.

Creator of ergonomic solutions

Ergosanté is also recognized for its expertise and skills by the world leader in Exoskeletons, the German company OTTOBOCK. The latter has entrusted it with the distribution of its PAEXO range in order to benefit from the power of Ergosanté's integrated distribution network (12 agencies in France).

Ergosanté's teams of ergonomic solutions consultants now have the most extensive range ofexoskeletons and postural assistants in Europe to date. They can count on a multidisciplinary team of nurses, biomechanics, ergonomists and engineers to assist them in the design of ergonomic solutions for all sectors of the economy. The fight against MSDs should thus enter a new era with Ergosanté.
Ergosanté designs and provides tailor-made solutions. Improving the working conditions of both able-bodied and disabled people, by bringing technological innovation to the service of the greatest number of people.

A creator of ergonomic solutions for workstations, the SME Ergosanté launched the manufacture of fabric masks in Anduze in the Gard department on 16 March. On request, the SME delivers them free of charge to its customers, partners and healthcare professionals. The SME has also maintained the release of its back prevention exoskeleton, intended in particular for hyper-stressed logistics professions.

Covid-19] Ergosanté offers fabric masks to its clients and health professionals.
Since March 16th Ergosanté has started the production of fabric masks in Anduze.

Based in Anduze (Gard) and specializing in ergonomic chairs and exoskeletons*, the 80-strong SME Ergosanté has laid off most of its production and sales teams, while the support and research and development departments are teleworking.

"It seemed necessary to me to put our activity on hold, because I don't want to expose our often fragile employees(Ergosanté is an adapted company, editor's note) to the significant risks represented by this virus." To go beyond this, Samuel Corgne, founder of the company in 2013, has also taken an initiative with the help of "six diehard seamstresses. To participate in the collective effort of prevention and protection, we have dedicated our textile manufacturing unit to the manufacture of protective masks, we have all the material on site." These are not standardised masks, simply wool-based masks, "to protect others in case of suspicion. We offer them to our customers, to carers who request them, via the nearest Ergosanté branch.

A production rate of 400 to 500 masks per day has been set up in Anduze since 16 March. The director of Ergosanté thinks he can keep it up "for at least two months". Each order is limited to 10 masks. "We have received orders from all over France," says Samuel Corgne.

After achieving a turnover of 7 million euros in 2019, Ergosanté took part in the "Great Exhibition of Made in France" at the Elysée Palace in mid-January 2020 and inaugurated a 400 m² extension (500,000 euros) in February 2020. "We were in good shape, we're going to take a big hit, but we're not giving up and we're doing what we can to help", notes the manager. The Gard-based SME nevertheless launched its new product on 17 March, the Hapo exoskeleton for back prevention (it relieves the lumbar area by shifting the weight onto the thighs). "The launch was not postponed, to meet the demand of customers in the logistics sector, whose operators will be extremely busy in the coming weeks.

Another textile manufacturer in the neighbouring department of Lozère, the Tuffery jeans workshop in Florac, has also started to manufacture non-standard masks, made of fabric, which are available free of charge in its workshop.

Brexit oblige, the Gard-based company ErgoSanté, specialising in the design and production of ergonomic equipment for well-being at work, repatriates 80% of its production to its head office in Anduze (30). It is expanding its plant to meet this need and support its growth (+66% in 2019).

ErgoSanté, created in 2013 and based in Anduze in the Gard, designs and distributes ergonomic equipment adapted to the specific needs of companies and their employees. Its ambition: to improve working conditions by reducing the arduousness and facilitating access to work for the most exposed people and in particular people with disabilities.

The company has 65 employees spread between its headquarters in Anduze and 12 agencies throughout France. On 30 January, it announced strong growth (+66%) in its business for the year 2019, bringing its turnover to €7.3 million.

All companies are obliged to have 6% of people with disabilities ," recalls Samuel Corgne, founder and CEO of ErgoSanté, to explain this growth. Even if they are still far from fulfilling these obligations, companies must recruit and therefore adapt workstations and create favourable conditions. The market is therefore developing, and we are structuring our presence in the territory. We are also doing risk prevention with exoskeletons, office chairs, treadmills, etc. »

" With Brexit, industrial subcontracting becomes unmanageable! »

On February 3, Ergo Santé will inaugurate its new 400 m2 and 6 m high storage warehouse (€500,000 investment), allowing its production capacity for ergonomic seats, one of the company's flagship product ranges, to rapidly increase from 3,000 to 10,000 units per year.

This extension of production capacity meets the need to accompany business growth, but also the strategy of integrating production, particularly in the context of Brexit.

Until now, 70% of ErgoSanté's production has been subcontracted to UK partners, enabling it to produce customised ergonomic chairs "under competitive price, delivery and volume conditions ".

We were working with British subcontractors because the know-how, especially at the head office, had somewhat disappeared in France, whereas qualified people could be found in England," explains Samuel Corgne. But the industrial management set up with our subcontractors to ensure customised production was déjà̀ complex, and with Brexit, it became unmanageable. The integration of production at the company's headquarters in Anduze will enable us to increase our industrial performance. We will gradually increase to 80% of our production in Anduze and 20% in England, which we are keeping for reasons of flexibility. »

The company will thus create more than 20 jobs during the year, mostly for workers with disabilities, thus reinforcing its adapted business model. At least 80% of its production currently employs disabled workers.

The exoskeleton market

ErgoSanté's clients include BNP, SNCF, Airbus, Banque de France and La Poste. Given the evolution of the market, Samuel Corgne is betting on a turnover of " at least €10 million" in 2020.

The company should market, from March, a new exoskeleton " simpler, usable by all and which will be sold for less than 1 000 € ".

There are crying needs everywhere ," observes Samuel Corgne. We want to make a new exoskeleton proposal every year. »

The exoskeleton will be sold for less than 1,000 euros. The adapted company has a new 400 m2 building to increase the production capacity.

Invited on January 18th and 19th to exhibit at the Elysée as part of the "Made in France" exhibition, the SME Ergosanté, designer and manufacturer of equipment designed to improve working conditions, is preparing a new exoskeleton. Marketed from March, "it will be sold for less than 1,000 euros, and everyone will be able to wear it," explains Samuel Corgne, manager. A new era of exoskeleton, more pragmatic, less spectacular, is opening up. "The subsidiary Ergosanté Technologie, R & D office, is looking for new ergonomic equipment, specific seats... A manufacturing unit, equipped with a dozen 3D printers, "allows us to make customised equipment, by mixing carbon, kevlar and fibreglass", adds the manager.

Airbus and SNCF as customers

Ergosanté, which currently employs 70 people, has 12 branches in France. Some 40 sales representatives travel throughout the country. Among its customers: Airbus, La Poste, BNP Paribas, Banque de France, SNCF...

The adapted company (80% of employees are disabled), based in Anduze, has just acquired a new 400 m2 building (an investment of 500,000 euros) to increase production capacity.

As a result of Brexit, production, mainly carried out at two production sites in England, will be repatriated to France. Objective: "To increase production from 30% in Anduze and 70% in England to 80% in Anduze and 20% in England, with a doubling of volume every year! ", sums up Samuel Corgne.

Ergosanté achieved sales of 7 million euros in 2019 and should reach 10 million euros this year. The company claims 8,000 post fittings per year, and is starting to export to Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Switzerland.

It took a multidisciplinary team three years to design the Shiva Exoexoskeleton, which has been deployed in the rail operator's maintenance workshops since September.

Supporting the working posture with arms up and cervical extension, protecting the lumbar region when bending the trunk, relieving weight with 5 to 15 kg assistance when carrying loads or tools... the Shiva Exoexoskeleton lives up to its name. On the basis of this functional specification drawn up by the SNCF and Ergosanté Technologie in March 2017, which proposes ergonomic solutions to prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). It took three years of work to come up with this 6.5 kg multifunctional exoskeleton, which has been on sale at 10 000 euros since the summer of 2019.
